Massive escalations in Syria after Russian strikes o Anti-Assad forces in Idlib province . Syrian rebel fighters fired rockets towards Syrian regime and Russian position .

The rebel retaliation came after Russian airstrikes on their positions in Idlib .

On Thursday Russian forces bombed Idlib leading to killing of seven AFP reported .

Vladimir Putin led Russia is a key backer of president Bashar Al Asad regime in Syria . With Russian and Iranian support Damascus clawed back much of the ground loss in the early stages of the Syrian conflict which erupted in 2011 when the Government brutally repressed Pro-Democracy protests.

The last pocket of the armed opposition to the regime includes large swathes of Idlib province and parts of the neighbouring Aleppo Hama and Latakia province.
