Why Putin May Be Holding Back His Most Advanced Su 57 Felon Fighters From Combat Ops In Ukraine

Russia Holds Back its most Advanced Fighter From Combat?

Putin wary of deploying over Ukraine says in intel

Fifth-gen firing missiles from Russian territory

Russia is reportedly wary of using its most advanced fighter jets over Ukrainian airspace . According to British intelligence Moscow had almost certainly used SU-57 Felon fighter jets to conduct missions against Ukraine. However  the sorties have probably been restricted to flying over Russian territory and firing long-range missiles into Ukraine.

State media tass reported that in May about the use of SU-57 during the military special operation Ukraine . Russia defense minister in August claimed the latest SU-57 fighters were performing brilliantly during the war.

Sergei Shoigu  (Russian Defense Minister)

We can say we have used and are using the SU-57 aircraft . This aircraft has shown itself brilliantly. The aircraft has a very high degree of protection against various air defense systems has protection against missiles. There is a lot of stuff there. Most importantly it has very powerful weapons. We also tried and tested these weapons they work brilliantly , I can not find another word for it.”

The UK defense ministry cited satellites imagery to suggest that at least five Felons are stationed at Akhtubinsk air base .

UK Defense Ministry Intelligence Update

“As this is the only known Felon base these aircraft have likely been involved in operations against Ukraine . Russia is highly likely prioritizing avoiding the reputational damage reduced export prospects and the compromise of sensitive technology which could come from any loss of Felon over Ukraine .”

Why Ukraine Is Wary Of Losing SU-57 Over Ukraine

Expert say the SU-57 is currently the most crucial aircraft for Moscow and the foundation for the future of VKS aviation . The update also stated that this action is an example of Russia continued risk-averse approach to deploying its air forces in the war. Experts say that these considerations would almost certainly come into play if the SU-57 was indeed used in the conflict .

Experts say that the SU-57 is Russia most advanced fighter and includes a significant amount of highly sensitives technology . Mocow would be wary of any technological information of SI-57 being leaked to the west.

SU-57 Russia Most Advanced 5th-Gen Fighter

The twin engine and single east-SU-57 is Russia most advanced fifth-generation supersonic combat jet. For an aircraft to be considered fifth-generation it must possess specific technical characteristics. These include the ability to fly at supersonic speed without afterburners.

However US military officials have expressed doubts about the SU-57 capabilities and call it an advanced fourth-gen fighter. The Russian air forces will receive 22 SU-57s by the end of 2024 and by 2028 their number will be increased to 76.

The SU-57 was tested for the first tine ina actual combat operations in Syria in 2018 . In 2019 Russian air force ordered the first batch of 76 SU-57 fighters and full scale production began the same year. The multi role fighter uses stealth shaping deflect radar waves while the weapons are stored in internal weapon bays .

Two large internal weapon bays are mounted in tandem between the engines and there are also two sideways for short-range air to air missiles .
