An employee hired by a private cleaning services company under contract to the Rensselaer Institute of Applied Sciences in New York State heard alarm signals from a laboratory refrigerator containing samples for scientific research.
After hearing the alarm, the employee of the private company shut down the refrigerator. On the door of the refrigerator was written how to turn off the beeps, but the employee misread it and turned off the circuit breaker.
