Women personnel in the Indian Army are also insecure as 123 female personnel have complained of sexual harassment and abuse in the last 3 years.
Since 2007, there have been 1,243 incidents of sexual assault against women personnel in the Indian Army. Between 2015 and 2017, more than a dozen female officers have claimed abuse by senior officers.
In 2021, a female Indian Air Force pilot filed a harassment and sexual assault complaint against a senior squadron leader. To cover up the incident, the Indian Air Force posted the female officer in a remote area as punishment.
In 2007, Captain Neha Rawat filed a sexual assault complaint against Major General AK Lal, while in 2008, Captain Poonam Kaur was court-martialled for a complaint of gang rape against her superiors.
In 2010, Major Megha Gupta claimed sexual assault against Colonel Anuradh Mishra, after which the Indian Army released Colonel Mishra with a warning.
