Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Saudi Foreign Minister
“ We think the priority needs to be de-escalation . De-escalation in the red sea but in the entire region and we are going to engage to make that happen and part of that , of course is also making sure that we engage with all stakeholders. There is a pathway towards a much better future for the region , for the Palestinians and Israel that is peace and we are fully committed to that . But again the first step for that is ceasefire and i will say that a ceasefire , Of course ceasefire on all sides but that can only happen that should be a starting point towards a permanent sustainable peace which can only happen through true justice for Palestinians people . ‘
Israel brutal war in Gaza has complicated the matters for Saudi Arabia in muslim world . Saudi and Israel were set to normalise ties last year but Hamas attack stalled the peace talks but Saudi Arabia which hosts Islam two holiest sites , came out in support of Palestinians .
Despite criticising Israel , Riyadh has said it is open to conditional peace with Tel Aviv . Saudi -led coalition previously fought Yemen Houthis but failed to defeat the rebels . Since last year Saudi and Iran backed Houthis were engaged in negotiations to end the war .
Saudi Arabia also repaired its ties with Iran following Chinese mediation efforts last year. Houthis have been relentlessly attacking merchant ships in red sea since last November.
The Houthis rebels have linked their attacks to Israel siege and war on Gaza strip . The Iran backed rebels said the attacks won’t cease until Israel halts its war on Gaza .
