Chinese ‘SPY’ ship heads to anothe port after docking for six days in Sri Lanka ||

The Chinese tacking vessel left Hambantota port at 4 PM on August 22. Yuan Wang 5 docked at Hambantota port leased to China for 99 years for replenishment . According to a report Chinese ship’s next port call is at China Jing Yin Port .

Hambantota port officials : There was no rotation of Chinese personnel during the call. Sri Lanka had asked China to defer the visit after India raised concerns  but Lanka finally allowed the ship to dock on the condition of keeping the automatic identification switched on & no scientific research in Sri Lanka waters .

Why was India concerned

  • Ship could have been used for military purposes by China.

  • Space satellite research vessel has an aerial reach that surpasses 750KM.

  • Yuan Wang 5 could’ve been used to monitor India space mission at Sriharikota.

  • Chinese ship could’ ve snooped on India installations along the southern coast .

While China maintained that ship is for scientific research . The U.S had said that it is under the command of PLA & Capable of tracking satellites & missile launches.
