 Welcome to the Latest update program in this series we will discuss why 15th August was chosen as India's Independence day this year that is 2022 India is celebrating its 75th Independence Day on 15 August the government is encouraging the hoisting of the tricolour across the country Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan to celebrate this special occasion know that 26 January was celebrated by India as its independence day from 1930 to 1947 it was changed to August 15 1947. Now moving out to the historical background .

The Purna Swaraj Resolution was passed in 1929 26 January 1930 was chosen as the first independence day .  Till 1947 India celebrated 26 January as Independence Day in February 1947 Lord Mountbatten was appointed as the last viceroy of India to oversee the transfer of power by June 1948 the circumstance is forced Mountbatten to shift the date of Independence from 1948 to 1947.

He chose  August 15 as the date of the Indian Independence the date also marks the anniversary of Japan's surrender in world war second the British house of commons pass the Indian Independence Bill on July 4 1947. Under this India was partition and Pakistan was created in July 1948 Pakistan released its first commemorative stamps mentioning August 15 1947 as its independence day however the date was later changed to August 14 .
