Weather stalls Ukraine counterattack in Kupiansk
Kyiv troops eye ‘10 days to fully secure the area’
Heavy rain and Russian resistance seem to have slowed down Ukraine counteroffensive to recapture territories from Putin troops . In the strategic town of Kupiansk inclement weather is hampering Ukrainian attacks on Russian troops from the Oskil river west bank .
The UK defense minister has said Russia appears to be targeting dams to flood Ukrainian military crossing points . This week Ukrainian artillery targetted the woods beyond the east of the town but tensions prevailed as a Russian drone was spotted overhead .

Kupiansk military administrator Andriy Kanashevych claimed on September 23 that it might take Ukrainian forces 10 days to secure the area . The key rail hub of Kupiansk was until recently used by Russia to supply its forces further south on the Donetsk battlefront .
However Kupiansk fell to Ukraine in this month stunning counterattack against the Russian forces .
Russian Resistance Halts Ukraine Progress
Despite the Ukrainian success a narrow strip of the Kharkiv region on the east side of the Oskil river remains in Russian hands. As per news agency AFP , this preventing Ukraine from pushing on into the Lugansk region which Moscow holds and is seeking to annex .
However Sergeant malyna reassured that they had enough weapons and men for an attack . Sergeant Malyna also called for more heavy weapons and more precision weapons repeating a common Ukrainian appeal to its western allies .
Citizens Flee to Safety
While the fighting continues in Kupyansk many civilians have already fled the town that is without electricity and running water . However many people don't have anywhere to go and are reliant on food aid deliveries .
Meanwhile other residents are struggling as Ukraine heads toward the winter with people living in houses with broken windows . Civilians can be seen clustering around portable generators as the rain courses down charging tablets flashlights and razors .
Even though the ongoing fighting has taken a toll most residents say they are glad that Ukrainian force returned to free the town .
