Taiwan showcases combat drones as self-ruled island aims to bolster defences

 Taiwan has displayed some of its latest self-developed combat drones. Comat drones are also known as unmanned combat aerial vehicles or UCAVs . Taiwan ramped up testing of its own UCAVs after seeing the success of such weapons in Ukraine .

                

Tension have been on the rise between self-ruled Taiwan and mainland China. A visit by US house speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taipei in August triggered large-scale mainland military exercises around Taiwan .

The mainland regards Taiwan as a renegade province to be reunited by force if necessary .

Beijing warns against officials ties with Taipei which most nations don’t recognise a sovereign state . The US said its abides by a one-China policy but opposes moves to take Taiwan by forces .
