Prime minister Narendra Modi will not hold an annual in person summit with Russian president Vladimir Putin . According to the Bloomberg news citing source , the Bloomberg report claim that PM Modi decided to skip the summit after the Russian president threatened to use nukes in Ukraine .
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also said it won’t be this year while talking about the prospects of a Putin-Modi summit. The state-run tass news reported . It would mark only the 2nd time the leaders of India and Russia have not met face-to-face since 2000.
When the relationship was elevated to a strategic partnership . The summit usually held in December was canceled just once in 2020 at the height of pandemic .

Russia India have held 21 summits in the last two decades . Putin visited New Delhi in December last year for 21st India-Russia annual summit . Modi and Putin met last in Sept this year on sidelines of the SCO in Uzbekistan
They have spoken on phone a number of times this year including on the subject of Russia ongoing invasion of Ukraine . A Russia official told bloomberg that India decision to not hold a summit this year was clear at the SCO where Modi told Putin that this is not an ERA of war .

Bloomberg report claims Modi is seeking to balance ties with Russia and the US. Remember India is become the second largest buyer of Russian oil after China and has not explicitly condemned what Russia calls its special operation in Ukraine .
Putin had issued a series of thinly veiled nuke threats but Russian officials have repeatedly denied any such plans and have accused the west of upping the nuclear ante .
