Russia Belarus will enter conflict if Ukraine invades
Fear of Russia renewed offensive against Ukraine via Belarus continue to loom large . Russia is holding a flurry of joint military drills with its ally Belarus since Oct last year. Russian foreign minister said that drills by Moscow and Minsk are designed to deter “potential opponents from escalation and provocations”.
He warned that Belarus will only enter the war if Moscow and Minsk are invaded . Russia and Belarus are planning to hold joint aviation drill there from next Monday . Meanwhile Russia land forces commander in visited troops in Belarus.
Gen Oleg Salyukoc inspected accommodation and domestic conditions of Russian forces. This comes after Ukraine president said that Kyiv must be ready and at its border with Belarus. Ukrainian forces also held military drill amid fresh threat of assault from the north .
Kyiv fears that Moscow could build up its forces in Belarus to strike the northwest region . Ukraine Russia may open northern front to divert our forces from raging battle in east . Ukraine fear stems from the fact that before Russia launched special military operation against Ukraine in Feb 2022 , Moscow held military drills in Belarus . Belarus even allowed Putin troops to cross into Ukraine in the early days of the war .
