Putin’s Army amplifies Bakhmut onslaught in east Ukraine; ‘800 Russian soldiers killed’

Ukraine claims 800 Russian soldiers killed in past 24 hours 

US predicts months of intense fighting in east Ukraine 

Bakhmut small city in east Ukraine has become a matter of pride for Russian and Ukraine . For the past eight months Russia has been trying to gain control of the city . But recently the battle in this Donetsk city has become one of the fiercest .

Russia continues its aerial assault on the largely ruined Bakhmut & two other cities in the Donetsk region Kostantynivka and Kurakhove . Ukraine forces have stalled Russian troops from making any advanced in the region. 

Ukrainian soldiers have dug trenches and have converted every home into a fortress . Ukraine military estimated 800 Russian soldiers were killed one aircraft, a helicopter & three tanks were destroyed in the past day mostly in fighting in Donetsk region .

Russian defense ministry on the other hand claimed that Russian troops pushed back Ukrainian soldiers to their original positions along the frontline . 

Why Russia Want Bakhmut 

Sits above a vast salt mine & is famed for its soviet-era winery . Has a crucial highway that runs diagonally through Ukraine Donetsk & Luhansk regions. Capture of Bakhmut could give Russia a platform to launch a border campaign across many parts of Ukraine . Capture might also open the Russian military path to Solvyansk & Kramatorsk two important industrial centers of Ukraine in the energy-rich Donbass region .
