Russia Rebukes Rome Mediation Offer Amid War
Putin administration calls Italy proposal strange
Pseudo-peacemaker should stop arming Kyiv says Kremlin
Rome offers to mediate as the Russia-Ukraine war heads for further escalation. The peace proposal by Italy however angered Russia Putin administration. Moscow called the offer strange and said it could not trust rome as an “Honest Broker”.
Russia Rejects Rome Peace Proposal
It is strange for us to hear mediation proposals from nations that have taken an unambiguous and quite aggressive anti-Russian position from the very beginning of the military operation in Ukraine . Rome was among those who openly supported Kyiv & actively supplied it with a wide range of arms .
Such reckless actions only multiply the number of casualties and delay the end of the conflict . Further weapons supplies to Ukraine could also put Kyiv NATO backers at risk of becoming directly involved in a military conflict with Russia.
In light of the agenda-driven stance taken by Italy we obviously cannot consider it either an honest broker or a potential peace process guarantor. European pseudo-peacemakers should stop arming Kyiv and focus on working with Ukrainian president Zelensky instead who has repeatedly voiced his total rejection of the peace resolution options . Russia response comes days sfter Italian PM Giorgia talked about rome readiness to guarantee a possible peace agreement between warring nations . Meloni also declared continue support for Ukraine as a fundamental condition for any such peace process and announced her plans to visit Kyiv soon .
Moscow has repeatedly suggested resuming the peace talks saying that Kyiv could end the conflict in a day if it met certain conditions set out by Russia . The Ukrainian government has rejected this proposal and Zelensky has signed a decree banning any talks with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
In mid-December Kyiv came up with its own peace formula demanding Russia to surrender all lands that Ukraine considers its own . Moscow reacted saying that Ukraine should accept the new realities. .
