Fakhar's storming innings, Pakistan beat New Zealand by 21 runs

 In the 35th and most important match of the World Cup, thanks to Fakhar Zaman's stormy innings, Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 21 runs. The rain-affected match was decided under the DL method.


In this match played in Bangalore, New Zealand set a target of 402 runs to the national team.



In this rain-affected match, the Pakistan team scored 200 runs for the loss of one wicket till the 26th over and the national team won by 21 runs due to the DL method.


In pursuit of a mountain-like target, the batting of the national team continued, before the rain came for the first time, the Pakistan team scored 160 runs for the loss of one wicket in 21.3 overs.


When the match resumed, 9 overs were cut under the DL method, so Pakistan needed 182 more runs off 117 balls to win.


Fakhar Zaman charged the bat but when the match was again stopped due to rain, Pakistan was leading by 21 runs under the DL method and this is where they won the match.


It should be noted that the first wicket of the Pakistan team fell for only 6 runs. However, after that, Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam's partnership of 194 runs changed the direction of the match.


Fakhar Zaman played a smoky innings of 126 runs off 81 balls which included 11 sixes and 8 fours.


On the other hand, captain Babar Azam played a responsible innings of 66 runs off 63 balls.

New Zealand's batting


Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first against New Zealand, after which the New Zealand batsmen batted with a high run rate from the beginning to the last over and scored 401 runs for 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.


Dion Conway and Richan Ravindra opened the innings for New Zealand while Shaheen Afridi bowled the first over of the innings.


The New Zealand openers built a partnership to take the score to 68 after Dion Conway was caught by Mohammad Rizwan off Hasan Ali for 35 in 10.5 overs.


Later, skipper Kane Williamson came in to bat and he also formed a partnership with Richan Ravindra and both the batsmen continued to bat with good run rate and took the score to 246 runs in 34 overs.


Meanwhile, Richan Ravindra scored his century while Kane Williamson scored a half-century.


New Zealand's second wicket fell for 248 in 34.2 overs when skipper Kane Williamson scored 95 and was caught out by Fakhar Zaman off Iftikhar Ahmed.


In the very next over, New Zealand's third wicket fell to 261 runs when Richan Ravindra scored 108 runs and was caught out by Saud Shakeel off Mohammad Wasim.

New Zealand's fourth wicket against Pakistan fell for 318 runs in 41.1 overs when Daryl Mitchell was bowled by Haris Rauf for 29 runs.


New Zealand's fifth wicket fell for 345 runs in 44.3 overs, Mohammad Wasim bowled Mark Chapman for 39 runs.


New Zealand's sixth wicket fell for 388 in 48.5 overs, with Mohammad Wasim bowling Glenn Phillips for 41.


For New Zealand, Mitchell Santner remained not out for 26 and Tom Latham for 2 runs.


Performance of Pakistan bowlers

In the match, Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, Mohammad Wasim and Haris Rauf bowled 10 and 10 overs, while Iftikhar Ahmed bowled 8 and Agha Salman bowled 2 overs.


Shaheen Afridi could not get any wicket by giving 90 runs while Hasan Ali got 1 wicket by giving 82 runs.


Iftikhar Ahmed scored 55 runs and Haris Rauf scored 85 runs and took one wicket each.


Muhammad Wasim took 3 wickets by giving 60 runs while Agha Salman could not take any wicket.


The match of the match

Fakhar Zaman was declared the man of the match for playing a victorious innings for Pakistan.


Speaking during the presentation, Fakhar Zaman said that today is my lucky day. We were given a target of 402 runs, for such a big target we had to play aggressively.


He also said that he will try to win against England as well.


What did Babur Azam say after that?


Talking after the toss, Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam said that we have bowled well in the previous matches, there has been a change in the team.


On this occasion, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said that he will try to give a good target, 2 changes have been made in the team.


Ish Sodhi was replaced by Matt Henry and Will Young, my preparation for the World Cup was limited, Kane Williamson said.


Pakistan Team

Babar Azam, Abdullah Shafiq, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Salman Agha, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Haris Rauf are included in Pakistan's playing XI for today's match.


New Zealand team

This match between the two teams is being played in Bengaluru.


Both the teams have played 7 and 7 matches in this World Cup so far, Pakistan has won 3 of their matches and New Zealand has won 4 matches.


New Zealand is fourth and Pakistan team is sixth on the points table.
