India and the United States will co-develop drones to checkmate China .

India -U.S Joint drone programme was confirmed by a senior Pentagon Official.

India will build these drones and export them to other countries the official said .

India-U.S Drones Deal

“The United States and India will co-develop drones as Washington seeks closer ties with New Delhi as a way of countering China. New Delhi too wants to diversify ,which is mainly Russian-Made and also to develop its own defense industry and we want to support India on both fronts and are doing so .

In practical terms that means that we’re going to be working closely with India on co-producing and co-developing capabilities that will support India own defense modernisation goals.

India can then export to our partners across the region ,including in south and southeast Asia at affordable price points” .( Ely Ratner,Assistant Secy of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs ,U.S )

The U.S officials suggested that two nations will jointly develop drones launched from airplanes and anti–drones defense systems . India has been wanting to upgrade its surveillance at the border  through the use of drones to counter China .

Apart from this new joint development programme Modi govt is also in advance stage talks with The U.S for the purchase of 30 MQ-9B Drones .

Ties between the U.S and India were troubled for many years but their shared wariness of an aggressive China brought the countries closer together .

The ties were first renewed under PM Modi and Former U.S President Donald Trump . In 2016 the United States designated India as a major defense partner and since then the two countries have signed agreements that facilitate  transfers of top-grade arms and deepen military cooperation .
