Japan is keeping a close watch on the Russian military activity on the disputed islands .

Tokyo support to US led sanctions against Russia over Ukraine war is being seen as the reason behind Moscow bid to ramp up its military infrastructure on the islands . Russia also withdraw from peace treaty talks with Japan and froze projects related to the islands .
