A male cheetah, Agni, sustained injuries in a skirmish between two groups of cheetahs at Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh. The injured cheetah is undergoing treatment and his condition has improved.
Six cheetahs, including three of the four cubs born in the park, have died since March, raising concerns about the KNP's management and administration. Prime Minister Narendra Modi released eight cheetahs from Namibia at Kuno National Park on his birthday in September last year, as part of an effort to revive the extinct cheetahs in India.
The Indian government's ambitious Project Cheetah, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to reintroduce wild species, particularly cheetahs, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) guidelines. India has a long history of wildlife conservation, with Project Tiger, initiated in 1972, contributing to the conservation of tigers and the entire ecosystem.
