Indian Air Force test fired extended range version of the Brahmos Air launched missile .
The missile fired from IAF’s SU-30 MKI Aircraft carried out a precision strike on a mock ship .
The Brahmos extended range missile test was conducted in bay of Bengal . Defense ministry said that the Brahmos missile test achieved desired mission objectives . Brahmos is an Indo-Russian joint venture and currently has a range of 290 km .
The range was kept below 300 km as India was not part of missile tech control regime .
India joined the MTCR in 2016 allowing to increase the range in Brahmos cruise missile .
India is also developing longer-range Brahmos that can hit targets over 800 km away .
It is considered as the fastest cruise missile in the world with a top speed of Mach 2.8 .
Brahmos can be launched from land , Air and Sea and all three variant are in service .
